Put on your dancing boots and head over to the LBJ Ranch on Saturday, October 24, for the annual "Barbecue on the Pedernales." Co-hosted by the National Park Service and Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, this event continues a Johnson family tradition of Texas hospitality at the LBJ Ranch. Country music recording artist Chris Cagle will headline the night's entertainment and The Salt Lick will serve its famous mouth-watering barbecue. Tickets are $75 per person and can be obtained at barbecueonthepedernales.com. Tables for eight are available. The event will run from 5 p.m .to 9 p.m.
Country singer Chris Cagle's music career has produced two gold albums, two No. 1 albums, and twelve charted songs. "I Breathe in, I Breathe out" was Cagle's first number one single and it remains a favorite at his concerts. "I want my music to be an environment, to strike chords, passions, memories, faults, loves, angers, and redemptions," said Cagle. "Imagine my music just on the outside of town right where the road turns to the rural route. A dirt road cul-de-sac with trucks all parked in a circle. I would love to see my music fit into that." Jake Penrod, a country singer who opened at last year's barbecue, will kick off the evening's festivities again this year.
The Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is a vital not-for-profit park partner that, among many other things, provides funding for many of the park's critical preservation projects, educational events, and interpretive exhibits. In the 1950s and 1960s, Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson hosted large Texas-style barbecues along the Pedernales River in a grove of live oak trees near their home. At these events hundreds of guests dined on delicious barbecued ribs or brisket smoked over pits in the grove. The National Park Service and Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park are proud to host western-style galas reminiscent of the barbecues that the Johnson family held through the years. Make plans to attend this year's event.
