Pieces of the Past in Johnson City offers just that, pieces of the past that have been reclaimed. Specializing in reclaimed wood and vintage iron, owner Kathy Johnson is always on the lookout for items that are guaranteed to turn the drab into reclaimed fab.

Kathy has been in business for the past thirteen years, ten of them in Austin. Spending several years as a manager with FedEx in New Orleans and Austin as well as teaching history, she always had a love for visiting salvage places – always looking for the best pieces that needed a second chance.

When she left FedEx, Kathy decided to open a shop that specialized in architectural antiques, thinking it would be a short term venture until she transitioned into something else. Obviously, she found her niche, because her business is still going strong.

Kathy moved to Johnson City because it is a crossroads to everywhere, and having closed the Austin shop, it became a logical spot to set up shop again. Originally opened with the intention of being used for storage and by appointment only, the shop is now open every Friday-Sunday and you can find Kathy there two or three days during the week.

Some of Kathy’s finds can be found on area ranches, churches, restaurants and private homes. Kathy loves getting to know people, the creative energy that they have, and helping bring their visions to fruition.

She is proud to say that she has been able to offer a great selection of reclaimed lumber especially old barn wood, bead board and flooring.
