LakeFest 2012, August 10-12, marks the 21st year that Lake Marble Falls is transformed into a liquid quarter-mile “racetrack” and Lakeside Park becomes the locale for a festive three-day boat race party.
On Friday, August 10, the gates open at 7am and approximately 100 boats go in the water from 9 am to 4 pm for Test & Tune. Friday evening drag boat fans swarm Johnson Park for a chance to get up-close and personal with the drivers and boats. Official t-shirts and posters will be available for purchase – just the thing for your favorite driver and crew to autograph! There will be lots of photo opportunities as well.
A Friday night conference concert featuring Jason Sturgeon will begin after the top-fuelers “fire up,” shooting flames out exhaust pipes and splitting every ear-drum in the park. There is no admission fee for the concert or the Show & Shine.
Gates open bright and early Saturday at 7 am, and qualifying races run all day. The fun continues after the races are over for the day as spectators are invited to spend time with the drivers at the Racer’s Reunion. You won’t believe some of the stories!
Early-birds can arrive Sunday at Lakeside Park around 7 am to get a great seat for opening ceremonies at 11 am. Immediately afterwards, top-fuel boats will thrill the crowds with astonishing speeds that can top 260 miles per hour. The event wraps up with over $100,000 in prize money awarded to the winners.
As with any great festival, there will be plenty of food, drinks, merchandise and vendors to visit between races. Please note: outside alcohol, pets, skateboards and umbrellas are not allowed on festival grounds. Small coolers (9 qts or smaller) are allowed for medications, water, etc. No large coolers are allowed.
