If you are looking for fun family things to do less than an hour’s drive from Austin, historic Bastrop, Texas is the answer.
On Saturday, November 10, you can stroll along downtown streets, visit artisan booths, shop our unique businesses, dine in our terrific restaurants, and enjoy over 200 show cars, trucks, and motorcycles. It is all part of the Seventh Annual Downtown Business Alliance Veterans Day Weekend Car Show. Come out the day before and join us for a drive-in movie in Fisherman’s Park along the Colorado River. Smokey and the Bandit will begin at dusk.
At 11:00 a.m., we honor all veterans with a moving ceremony on Main Street highlighted by the veterans walk, led by a bagpiper and the Naval Junior ROTC Color Guard, the community chorus and band, and the chiming of church bells at 11:11 a.m. Representatives from a number veteran's organization will be on hand at our Veteran's Canteen who will have information on benefits and available programs. As if that weren’t enough, there will be a rockin’ disc jockey at the car show on North Main Street and live music on the main stage on South Main Street. It opens at 9:00 a.m.
Just a few weeks later on Saturday, December 8, join us for the DBA Lost Pines Christmas Celebration, street market, and night time lighted Christmas Parade. Over 100 lighted floats will roll down Main Street. But, the fun and festivities start the Thursday before with choral performances, a production at the historic Bastrop Opera House, and much, much more. Of course, there is also our River of Lights display as you stroll along the Colorado River.
