All Bandera County cowgirls are invited to meet at Hill Country State Natural Area on Jan. 1 at noon. A panoramic photo on horseback will be taken, followed by the Show-deo. Examples of showmanship, dressage and speed events will be held in the arena. The history of the American cowgirl, singer/songwriters, storytellers and artists will also be featured.

6am-10am. Bandera County Chamber of Commerce hosts a "by donation" authentic chuck wagon taco breakfast in front of the Bandera County Courthouse to raise funds for the Junior Livestock Auction.

Flying X ranch, BCNWR, 89365 S. FM 1174. SparrowFest is conducted as a one-day workshop and fundraiser for Friends of Balcones Canyonlands NWR with field trips in the morning and afternoon, lunch and a sparrow slide show at mid-day, and an optional "Sparrow Countdown and Dinner" in the evening after the last field trips. This year, our three field trip leaders (Byron Stone, Bill Reiner and Randy Pinkston) will escort about 35 festival participants divided into three groups morning and afternoon to several different refuge tracts and two different private properties adjacent to the refuge.

6:30pm. Blanco High School gym. A benefit for the Blanco EMS and Blanco Chamber of Commerce. Get ready for dazzling ball-handling tricks, high-flying slam dunks and hilarious family comedy. Join the Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Show as they take on the Blanco All-Stars. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Proceeds benefit the Blanco EMS and the Blanco Chamber of Commerce. It's not your grandfather's basketball show.

9am. Cibolo Nature Center, 140 City Park Rd. A three-part seminar for landowners interested in potential property-tax savings through a wildlife tax valuation. The seminar is geared to landowners with more than 20 acres and emphasizes wildlife-management strategies that improve native habitat and increase species diversity. Participants will learn the requirements and prepare to apply for the program.

22nd annual. The official lighting of the Blanco County Courthouse will begin with Santa's arrival at 6:30pm. After the lighting, the Chuck Wagon Food Court will be open next to the Johnson City Bank. Live band music will continue throughout the evening festivities. Free hayrides, sponsored by T&E Services, will operate until approximately 11 pm. Carriage rides will be available. Johnson City Garden Club will offer Christmas ornaments and crafts in the courthouse lobby. The Blanco County Courthouse, in Johnson City, glows with 100,000+ lights for a full month of holiday splendor. Also featured are a one million light display at the PEC headquarters on Ave F, Christmas in the Park and light displays throughout the community.

7:30pm. Brauntex Theatre, 290 W. San Antonio. UnderMotion Production Corporation is proud to present its debut production, The Last 5 Years, with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. This off-Broadway hit tells the story of a couple of New Yorkers who fall in and out of love over the course of 5 years; however, the way in which they tell their story is unique because Jaime, the male, tells his story chronologically while Cathy, the female, tells her story backwards. They only meet once, when they get married in the middle of the show. Starring Lindsay Pearce from the hit TV show "Glee" and fourth place winner of the popular series "The Glee Project.” Also starring Alex Trevino, a local San Antonio actor living in Los Angeles who just made his film debut in the feature film "Little Boy." There are only 3 performances planned so far, but we will add more if we have to! You do not want to miss this exciting production!

This will provide a one-stop shopping approach to the educational services and non-profit organizations that are available to serve families in San Marcos.
